Impact is a characteristic in our Best Practices matrix because impact is an excellent way of measuring results based on specific actions.

Impact refers to a strong influence resulting in a significant measurable change, forceful consequence, or outcome.

It basically refers to the causes and effects of specific actions. Impact, therefore, can be either positive or negative.

For the purposes of discussing Best Practices, impact refers to positive consequences. Impact is assessed based on

  • tangible improvement
  • accountability
  • transparency

Tangible improvement refers to the ability to objectively measure and compare positive outcomes resulting from specifically measured actions.

Transparency in the process by all stakeholders is key to assessing actual impact. Transparency means "Readily understandable, clear, without guile, candid. " It also indicates that the actions, writing and plans of individuals, groups or organizations must not exclude any hidden information, motives or data. Transparency is the free flow and accessibility to complete information.

Accountability only exists after those who have been assigned and accepted responsibility for specific tasks are given real authority to carry those tasks out.

A Best Practice results in creating significant, postive and measureable impact.

Another indication of a Best Practice is sustainability.
