Managing the Media
media kit

A media kit is a folder of information that will help reporters write an accurate story (components of which should be available as downloadable *.pdfs on your company website, as well). It should include whatever facts you want them to know about.

Media kits help journalists save time and improve accuracy because everything is there in black and white. Journalists sometimes copy entire paragraphs of information found in media kits, particularly when on deadline. It is convenient, the journalist doesn't have to spend time calling the source to ask for more information, or double-check numerous facts.

Here are some documents we will include:

  • background material about your company
  • one-page fact sheet about your company
  • biographies of your top executives
  • photographs of products (be sure to include captions)
  • photographs of your executives (essential for an interview)
  • pertinent product sheets/brochures
  • contact names and numbers

Press Releases
A press release conveys NEWS, including unusual products and companies, trends, tips and hints, and other developments.

Backgrounder/Fact Sheet
This should include all pertinent information about your company, its products or services, its market/industry, and its management team. Keep it focused on benefits and information. This is a factual document, not a sales pitch. Here's what to include in your backgrounder:

  • what your company does
  • company history, including when and why your company was started
  • brief description of your products or services ·
  • biography of your key personnel
One-page Corporate Fact Sheet
We can also create a one-page corporate fact sheet. It is a shorter, "bare bones" document compared to the backgrounder. A fact sheet lists the basics about your company, including:
  • company name, address, and phone number
  • contact names and phone numbers
  • focus of your business
  • products or services
  • management team names

Biographies
We write a biography of all of your top executives. Focus on the person's current responsibilities, in reverse chronological order. Include:

  • brief job description
  • qualifications
  • why this person is an asset to your company
  • previous employment history and pertinence to the current position
